50 Years of Perfection From The Empress of Soul

Fifty years ago today, the Empress of Soul and her Pips released a song that would become a top ten hit and an example of soul perfection- If I Were Your Woman. The song has Gladys begging an acquaintance to be his woman. The song is three minutes of Motown perfection and one of our favorite songs of all time. Only a fool would turn down a woman who could sing like Gladys. And her irresistible vocals prove that fact even today.

The world of soul music has lost its undisputed queen. From the moment she stepped up on the altar of her father’s church and began singing, everyone knew they were in the presence of a future legend. Despite her young age, Aretha could sing and she would attract churchgoers from all around to hear her.
